Building a wardrobe that works

Most wardrobes are not too small. They are unmapped — full of clothes their owner has stopped seeing.

A wardrobe stops working long before it runs out of room. What fails first is memory: a jacket bought for one occasion, worn twice, and quietly forgotten behind three others. The clothes are still there. The knowledge of them is gone.

That is the problem ZIMRICS was built around. Photograph what you own, and the wardrobe becomes something you can ask questions of — what have I not worn this season, what does this skirt actually go with, what did I pay per wearing for the coat I keep reaching for.

The numbers change how people shop. Cost per wear turns an expensive coat worn ninety times into the cheapest thing in the wardrobe, and a bargain worn once into the most expensive. Neither fact is visible without a record.

Start with what you reach for. The clothes you wear weekly are the ones whose gaps matter — a wardrobe is not improved by cataloguing the things you already never wear.
